Dr. Who, the British science-fiction show that debuted in 1963, making it the longest-running sci-fi show in history -- which has also successfully transitioned into books, DVDs, and iTunes downloads --is about to transition to movie theaters as part of a 3D 50th anniversary Celebration. 3D, said BBC's controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson, will provide a whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore. In an interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper, Stephenson said that the BBC is working out the logistics of distributing the 3D film in cinemas but insisted we need to make sure the main BBC1 experience remains absolute value for money for the audience. Eleven actors have played Doctor Who since the series was launched (three are now dead), and there was immediate speculation that some of them be united for the theatrical release, which will also air on the BBC's HD channel.
