The boss of Britain's iconic Glastonbury festival has confessed the controversial decision to book Jay Z in 2008 was not his idea - he had never even heard of the rapper.
Michael Eavis attracted criticism from some musicians, including Oasis star Noel Gallagher, for signing up the 99 Problems hitmaker to headline the event three years ago, in a marked move away from its traditional rock roots.
The decision proved to be a huge success as Jay Z was one of the highlights of the 2008 festival - and now Eavis has revealed his daughter Emily had persuaded him to give a hip-hop artist the chance to perform.
He tells Britain's Daily Express, "I almost cancelled the festival that year because we didn't have a strong enough headliner. Then my daughter Emily suggested rapper Jay Z so when she'd taught me how to pronounce his name I rang him up.
"There was me at the farm in Pilton (in England) speaking to his people in Los Angeles! We got him on board, then there was a massive hoo-ha (uproar) about it. We'd only sold 80,000 tickets at one point and I was getting really frightened we would go bankrupt. I lost weight and everything. We need to sell out to keep it going."
