SIR Elton John is still struggling to come to terms with the murders of close friends John Lennon and Gianni Versace. The former beatle and the Italian fashion designer were both gunned down outside their American homes, and the ROCKET MAN fails to understand how anyone could have wanted to kill such talented men. He says, "There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of Gianni and John, and other friends who have gone needlessly. "Two of my best friends have been murdered on their doorsteps in America - I don't think many people can say that. "There's always some little memory that brings you back to it. I miss John Lennon's laugh and every day I wish Gianni was alive because we were soul mates." Lennon died in 1980 when crazed fan Mark David Chapman shot him outside his Dakota Building apartment block in New York City. Versace was murdered on the steps of his Miami home in 1997.
