Elvis' Crypt: Yours For Just $100,000!
Just when you thought that all of Elvis Presley's personal artefacts had been plundered, sold, auctioned and sold all over again, an auction house has come up trumps and is intending to sell The King of Rock and Roll's crypt. Yes. His crypt. One lucky bidder will be able to proudly tell anyone who'll listen that they'll be sharing a resting place with Elvis Presley. Not at the same time, of course but as claims to fame go, it's a pretty unique one.
Yesterday (May 28, 2012), TMZ.com reported that the crypt will be auctioned by Darren Julien of Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills in his 'Music Icons' auction. Julien has previously been responsible for auctioning Michael Jackson's Thriller jacket, a jacket worn by John Lennon and the 'River of No Return' dress worn by Marilyn Monroe. The crypt is located at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis Tennessee and will be auctioned on June 23, 2012.
After Elvis passed away on August 16,1977, his body laid in the tomb for two months, alongside Gladys, his mother. Both Elvis and Gladys were later re-buried at his Graceland home. The tomb itself has remained empty ever since. The entire lot for auction will include "the crypt, opening and closing of the vault for burial, a memorialization inscription and use of the chapel for a committal service." The Christian Post has reported that bidding will commence at $100,000.
