A watch owned by rock icon Eric Clapton has sold at auction for $3.68 million (£2.3 million).
The Swiss-made Patek Philippe timepiece was listed as an "ultra-rare", platinum-cased watch which the guitar great received in 2002.
It was put up for sale as part of auction house Christie's Geneva event in Switzerland on Monday (12Nov12) and attracted a slew of big bidders before a private collector in Asia snapped it up for the seven-figure sum.
However, the pricey piece wasn't the biggest draw of the lot - another platinum Philippe watch, made in 1952 for renowned collector JB Champion, sold for a record $4 million (£2.5 million), reports Reuters.
Clapton is no stranger to auction profits - he recently sold a painting by German artist Gerhard Richter, Abstraktes Bild (809-4), for a record-breaking $34.2 million (£23.8 million).
