Rupert Everett - Everett Applauds Firth For Career Success
Actor Rupert Everett has applauded fellow Brit Colin Firth, just months after slating his performance in movie musical MAMMA MIA!.
The My Best Friend's Wedding star mocked his old pal Firth's portrayal of a gay businessman in the 2008 Abba-themed film, admitting he thought the star had committed "career suicide" by taking on the all-singing, all-dancing role.
But Firth has gone on to enjoy a stellar two years, picking up an Oscar nod in 2010 for A Single Man, and he's the favourite to walk away with the Best Actor Academy Award for The King's Speech at this year's (11) prizegiving.
Now Everett admits he was wrong - and he's ecstatic Firth is finally getting the parts he deserves.
Everett tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "People always assume actors loathe each other, but I have worked with Colin four times and have always known he is a great actor.
"What's so brilliant about Colin's career now is that he is finally being allowed to be a great actor. I'm at once thrilled for him and green with envy."
