Evita - Evita To Close After Ricky Martin Steps Down
Producers behind the Broadway revival of musical Evita have decided not to recast the show once Ricky Martin's run comes to an end.
The superstar singer has been treading the boards as the Eva Peron story's narrator for nine months, and is set to take his final bow in January (13).
Bosses of the production were slated to hire new stars to step into the current cast's shoes, but they have announced they will now close the show on a high in the New Year.
A statement from producer Hal Luftig reads, "Our extensive search for a new cast presented the significant challenges of not only replacing a high-calibre trio of stars, but also synchronising the schedules of potential replacements with that of the production.
"Despite going down the road with a variety of artists, the planets have simply not aligned for us to engage the right talent at the right time. Therefore, we have made the decision to end this incredible journey on a high note on January 26 with our original stars intact."
