The Kooks - Ex-the Kooks Star Max Rafferty Addresses Addiction Reports
Former The Kooks star Max Rafferty has dismissed rumours he was forced to leave the band due to spiralling drug problems.
The bassist was said to have been kicked out of the British band in 2008 over alleged cocaine and alcohol addiction, but he insists he actually fell out with the rockers over musical differences.
Rafferty tells Britain's Daily Star, "I didn't think (2008 album) Konk was very good, and I said that. I was unhappy with the whole situation, but it was made to sound like I had a massive drug problem.
"That wasn't what was going on at all. That story was a complete load of a**e. I only joined the band because they were looking for a bassist...
"People will use any excuse when it comes down to it. They'll say whatever's necessary when there are problems, rather than deal with the real issue."
