A woman who allegedly pretended to be an AC DC concert promoter has been accused of conning fans out of nearly $100,000 (£66,667) by planning a fake gig.
Australian Leanne Herbert, 41, was arrested last month (May10) amid allegations she spent seven months in 2005 promoting a bogus show by the Back In Black hitmakers in Sydney.
She has been charged with four counts of obtaining money by deception after allegedly selling special tickets and sponsorship deals for the non-existent concert. Herbert is alleged to have scammed fans, businesses, charities and even schoolchildren.
Police caught up with Herbert in late May (10) after a representative for AC DC claimed the band's management had never worked with her and were not approached about the gig.
Herbert, who has not yet entered a plea, appeared at Port MACquarie Local Court on Monday (07Jun10) via videolink from the Emu Plains Correctional Centre, where she is being held without bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for 21 June (10).
