Adoring fans of slain BEATLE John Lennon will head to Central Park's Strawberry Fields today (09OCT06) to celebrate what would have been the 66th birthday of the beloved rock legend in New York City. Lennon was shot to death across the street from the park, in front of his apartment building, on 8 December 1980. According to John Lennon Memorial Committee co-founder THOMAS LEIGHTON, "It's always spontaneous. The fans come on their own. They just gather." Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, planned to mark his birthday in Iceland by presiding at two events to further world peace. She will also award two $50,000 grants (GBP28,000) at a ceremony in Reykjavik. Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, 51, remains in prison in Attica, New York, serving 20 years to life. His next parole hearing is this month (OCT06).

Love and peace from me also, and keep alive the memory of a great man (the late and great John Lennon) as the previous message stated he was taken away from us far too soon (just as later the same thing with the late and great George Harrison). To think that otherwise the Beatles Anthology might have been a Beatles reunion. Or even Live Aid in 1985 might have seen a Beatles reunion. I am so full of emotion when I think of what might have been.Cancel all parole board hearings of that sick Mark Chapman. But all the same happy birthday to Sean Lennon, hope your new album is a success. Not forgetting Julian of course, whom has also had great album successes and hope he goes on doing so.Also love and peace to Cynthia and Yoko. I will say again that it was a great shame that the peace events in Iceland was not shown on BBC television.
