R&B singer Frank Ocean was scared off drink and drugs as a child after accompanying his grandfather to support meetings for recovering addicts.
The Novacane star's maternal granddad struggled with alcohol, heroin and crack cocaine issues during his youth, but he managed to overcome his troubles and would often attend 12-step meetings for addicts to mentor others fighting similar demons.
A young Ocean would follow his grandpa to the group sessions and the stories he heard were enough to make him turn his back on any kind of wild lifestyle for good.
He tells the New York Times, "It totally ingrained this fear of addiction and of anything that could cause me to be addicted."
