Freddie Starr reportedly suffered an allergic reaction while appearing on reality show 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here', leaving him in an Australian hospital. The 68-year-old funnyman is undergoing tests, but is said to be in "good spirits" after the scare, according to Hello magazine.
The comedian was taken ill just hours after taking part in the show's 'Greasy Spoon' bushtucker trial - an event in which contestants must eat a series of unsavoury meals including fermented egg, camel toe, turkey testicles and mealworms. Starr had already arrived late in camp after paperwork problems concerning his heart attack, and the comic began feeling light-headed after walking back to camp following his success in the trial - he comprehensively defeated The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright. A spokesman for the Itv1 show said, "Freddie Starr was taken unwell in the jungle. He was immediately attended to by on-site medics and taken to hospital where he was assessed by doctors. He will remain in hospital overnight as a precaution and further tests continue, he is in great spirits and keeping nursing staff entertained". It is understood his illness may have been caused by a bite or brushing against a tropical plant - rather than the gruesome meal he endured on Monday's show (14th November 2011).
Freddie - who was once accused of eating a hamster - is the 10/1 fourth favourite to win the Itv reality show, although it is still unclear whether he will return to camp following his hospital visit.
