The Great Gatsby raked in an estimated $51.1 million over the weekend, bowling over analysts' predictions of $35-40 million. But it was not enough to displace Iron Man 3 as the No. 1 film at the box office. The Disney/Marvel threequel collected another $72.4 million in its second weekend, nearly half of it on Saturday. (On Friday Gatsby and Iron Man wound up in a photo finish with around $19 million each.) Iron Man 3 thereby raised its domestic total to about $284 million. With an overseas gross of around $664 million, it now is on the verge of crossing $1 billion worldwide. All other films at the box office performed poorly, including Tyler Perry Presents Peeples, the only other one to debut over the weekend. It grossed just $4.8 million, the worst result ever for the debut of a Perry-directed or -produced film.
