The pioneering but relatively moderate gay-oriented magazine The Advocate, which in recent years has found itself on the outs (no pun intended) with more militant gay activists, plans to launch a cable and Internet news program focusing on gay events and issues, Mediaite.com reported on Monday. The program will also use content from NBC News and it, in turn, will provide content to NBC. The cable and online outlet Here! Network has agreed to carry the program (it's already carrying a monthly newsmagazine from The Advocate ), which, following the demise of other gay-oriented news programs launched in recent years, will be the sole nightly newscast focusing on news about the gay community.
