Geimer Wants Polanski Freed
The woman at the centre of the Roman Polanski child-sex case is set to ask a judge to spare the legendary movie director from further time behind bars.
According to the Associated Press, Samantha Geimer's lawyer is planning to file a motion on Thursday (21Jan10) requesting the Chinatown filmmaker be handed his sentence in absentia.
And the attorney is also reportedly backing Polanski's lawyer's request that he be sentenced to time served and freed.
Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with Geimer when she was 13 years old but fled to Europe in 1978 before he could be handed his punishment. He remained a fugitive until he was arrested in Switzerland last year (09).
A judge will rule on Friday (22Jan10) whether Polanski, who is currently under house arrest in Switzerland, can be sentenced in absentia.
