Rocker Gene Simmons' daughter decided to audition for America's The X Factor because she didn't want to use her father's fame to find success.

The Kiss rocker and his wife Shannon Tweed accompanied Sophie to an audition in San Francisco, California in June (12), and the 20 year old showed off her voice for judges Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato, Britney Spears and Antonio 'L.A.' Reid.

Her tryout is set to be broadcast during the current series of the reality show, and Sophie revealed she opted to use the programme as a platform instead of capitalising on her famous dad's name.

During an interview in front of The X Factor cameras, she says, "I grew up with music but I didn't want to sing ever before because I didn't want my dad's help with it. It's just hard when the crowd turns into a mob of pictures, and like, someone elbows you in the face to get a picture of your parents."
