George Clooney - George Clooney, Brad Pitt Set To Do Battle At Oscars
Brad Pitt may have been one of the first to congratulate George Clooney when he won the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes this month but when it comes to the Oscars, the gloves will, no doubt, be off. The two Hollywood heavyweights are without doubt the two frontrunners to win the award, though competition from Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman and Demian Bichir is certainly not to be discounted.
George Clooney walked away from The Golden Globes with the Best Actor award for his performance as Matt King in The Descendants (in which a land baron attempts to rebuild his relationship with his daughters after his wife is involved in a boating accident) whilst Brad Pitt lost out for his sterling appearance in Moneyball (the story of a baseball club owner's attempts to form a successful club, using computer-generated analysis). Clooney already has one Academy Award under his belt. In 2006, he landed the Best Supporting Actor award for his appearance in Syriana. Brad Pitt will, no doubt, be keen to take an award home, with two previous nominations to his name, but no golden statuette on the mantelpiece.
The surprise nominee out of the five must surely be Demian Bichir, for his performance in A Better Life. Bechir is the only star on the list who failed to make an impact at the Golden Globes and many were expecting Michael Fassbender to get a look-in for his revered performance in Shame.
