Country music legend George Jones has spoken out about the family feud between him and his daughter after he failed to walk her down the aisle at her wedding last year (11).
Jones' daughter, Georgette Lennon, from his marriage to late country superstar Tammy Wynette, claims their relationship became strained several years ago and the rift widened when he allegedly booked a gig on the same day as her marriage ceremony in October (11).
The singer has now opened up about the feud by posting a video on his official website.
He starts by thanking fans for their support as he continues to recover from an upper respiratory tract infection, which forced him to postpone a number of shows recently.
He says, "Thank you so much for all the prayers and wonderful ways you have stood by me... As you know I have been fighting an upper respiratory infection and I'm on my way back for sure. I only need time. I look forward to seeing you all soon."
Jones goes on to talk about the problems between him and his daughter, adding, "I would like to apologise for my daughter Georgette and her new husband for putting so much bad things about me on the internet and Facebook. None of these things are true. They are all about money. I have gave and gave until I can no longer give. I will never let her go hungry, but I am tired of putting out, and I am not the person they claim I am."
Lennon has since responded to his remarks, telling the Associated Press, "All I've ever wanted is to have a relationship with my dad and for him to know how much I love him and for him to love me and want to be a part of my life. I had hoped that we could resolve this between the two of us privately and at some point he would talk to me. Unfortunately, things have escalated even further...
"My family means the world to me, and that includes my dad, and I would never say anything negative about him... I hope at some point he will sit down and listen to me and that we can talk this out and be a family again... I've never wanted money or anything from my father."
