Star Wars creator George Lucas has filed a proposal asking legal officials in California to approve his plans to build an art museum in San Francisco.

The director has amassed a huge collection of artwork over the years, including Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish paintings, and now he's hoping to put it on display for families to enjoy.

On Friday (01Mar13) he submitted a 20-page application to Presidio town executives asking for permission to build the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum at the soon-to-be-vacant Crissy Field.

Bosses are currently combing through proposals for the space; a decision is not expected until next year (14), according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
