Gerard Butler has returned home after a three week stay in rehab. Gerard Butler is now apparently 'in good health' after he was able to receive treatment for issues he had with pain medication.

The '300' actor admitted himself to the Betty Ford Centre in California and now he has returned home. A spokesperson told people.com: 'Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health. We will not be making any further comment at this time.'

It's thought that the Scottish actor become dependent on painkillers after he was involved in a surfing accident last December. Butler had been shooting a surfing scene in California when he fell off his board and was trapped under the waves. Recalling the incident, Butler stated that it had been a 'pretty close' call, further stating to Graham Norton: ''It was a pretty close call... [The waves] just took me and I couldn't get up. It was pretty hairy.' Further reports suggested that Butler had regularly been taking painkillers since 2006 when his role in '300' had been physically demanding.

The actor who had previously been a lawyer has also admitted to battling alcohol in the past, suggesting that 'one or two drinks was never enough for me'. Butler will next be seen in 'Of Men And Mavericks' which he is currently filming.
