Spice Girls - Geri Halliwell Was Scared To Join Twitter
Former Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell was wary of signing up for an account on Twitter.com because she was "fearful" about social networking sites and wanted to "protect" herself from judgement.
The singer set up her page on the site last year (12) and regularly posts updates and pictures documenting her life for followers, but the 40 year old admits she initially "didn't want to participate" in the microblogging trend.
Halliwell has opened up about her fears in a post on her blog, which she launched on Sunday (31Mar13), and reveals her desire to make changes in her life prompted her to finally create a Twitter account.
She writes, "(I) felt resistant to things out of my comfort zone like social media, I was the last Spice to join Twitter. I felt overwhelmed, fearful, I didn't want to participate, I wanted to protect myself from judgement, but in doing so I was missing out on a lot of fun.
"Who was I fooling? Certainly not myself, not any more... But something has changed in me, I realised how insulated and stuck I had become... Twitter is my new playground, it's so liberating to be silly, foolish, to not care if I look like a silly cow."
Halliwell also details her plans for new music in the blog post, as well as teasing fans with news of another upcoming project. She adds, "I did a cameo role on a comedy the other day."
