World Cup-winning soccer player Heinz Flohe has died at the age of 65.
The sportsman, a member of West Germany's triumphant 1974 side, had been in a coma since suffering a stroke in May, 2010. He passed away in his sleep late on Saturday (15Jun13) in his home city of Euskirchen.
Flohe served as a midfielder for F.C. Cologne from 1966 to 1979 and led the team to victory as captain as they claimed the league and German cup titles in 1978.
He played a total of 39 games for his country, scoring eight goals, and was part of the team which won the 1974 World Cup.
He retired from the game in 1980 after sustaining a serious injury while playing for 1860 Munich.
