Gibson Arrested For Suspected Drink Driving
Oscar-winner Mel Gibson was arrested early on Friday (28JUL06) morning in Malibu, California for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Sheriff's Department Spokesperson STEVE WHITMORE said Gibson's vehicle was speeding eastbound on the Pacific Coast Highway when officers stopped him at 2.36 am. The 50-year-old Braveheart star was booked at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station at 4.06 am, according to department records. The actor and director was given a breath test, cited and released. Bail was set at $5,000 (GBP2,800). A sheriff's official confirmed to celebrity news website TMZ.com that Gibson had a blood alcohol level of .12. The legal limit in the state of California is .08. Whitmore adds, "The investigation is ongoing. As we would do with anyone, we don't want to release any more since the information is fragmentary." Gibson, who has admitted to past problems with alcohol, ran a red light and collided with another car in 1984 while driving drunk and in 1991 joined Alcoholics Anonymous.
