I don't think any marriage can have a great ending whatever the age gap. Neither can life itself, unfortunately. We're all doomed to a sad end either lying zonked out in a sterile hospital ward, having an aneurism on the 8.15 from Paddington or sitting in an old folks home wondering where you left your shoes. Personally I'd like to go sitting outside my favourite restaurant in the South of France with a glass of decent wine in my claw. The wife, however, would be left in a state of high dudgeon at my passing and vice versa.The best we can hope for is to make the happiness last as long as we're able - then to slide gracefully into oblivion with as little fuss as possible. Easier said than done...
