The Glee episode on Tuesday (April 24, 2012) features a fitting tribute to the late Whitney Houston, which drew praise from New York Daily News critic David Hinckley. Stars of the Fox comedy-drama tackled Houston's hit track 'Saving All My Love For You', among others.
Previewing tonight's episode, Hinckley said the "Tribute episode shows her tunes are a perfect fit for high school drama". Whitney herself said the song carried an undercurrent of personal torment because it was about her doomed romance with a married man, and the sentiments of the song were handled perfectly by Dianna Agron and Samuel Larsen. The show has covered Houston's songs before - back in February, Amber Riley's character Mercedes performed her signature song 'I Will Always Love You', but the new episode titled 'Dance with Somebody' is an all-Whitney affair. Other numbers include Naya Rivera covering 'So Emotional' and Chris Colfer tackling 'I Have Nothing'.
Houston died in February 2012 at the age of 48 from heart problems thought to be related to drug use. She was found face down in the bathtub of her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the evening before the Grammy Awards. Other television tributes to the late singer have included a 'Whitney' themed night on AMERICAN IDOL.
