Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have ''done perfectly'' without marriage.

The 67-year-old actress has been with her long-term partner since they were cast together in 1983's 'Swing Shift' and the couple are so ''devoted'' to one another they don't see how a legal document can strengthen their love.

She told Australia's Woman's Day magazine: ''[We] have done just perfectly without marrying. I already feel devoted and isn't that what marriage is supposed to do?

''So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we're fine. We both have independent finances, we're both independently well-off.''

Goldie - who has children Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson with her ex-husband Bill Hudson and son Wyatt with Kurt - initially thought the age gap between the pair was too big after they first met during the filming of 'The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band' in 1968 as they were both so young.

However, the pair later found they couldn't stay away from one another and decided to take the risk and begin dating.

She recently recalled: ''I was 21 and he was 16 and I thought he was adorable but he was much too young. And then years later we met up again and I liked him and I remembered that I had liked him very much when I first met him.

''But we both said we would never go out with another actor so it just shows you never can tell.''
