Aussie pop star Gotye has scored his first U.S. number one with international hit Somebody That I Used To Know.
The singer/songwriter, real name Wouter De Backer, was helped to the top by a Glee tribute to the song, which aired on TV in America last week (10Apr12), an appearance on Saturday Night Live (14Apr12) and a performance at the Coachella music festival in California on Sunday (15Apr12).
He sold 542,000 downloads of the hit in the past week to land the fourth-best sales period since SoundScan began tracking digital sales in 2003.
He becomes the first Australian-raised act to hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 since Savage Garden hit number one with I Knew I loved You in 2000.
Somebody I Used to Know ends Fun's six-week reign at number one with We Are Young. The two songs switch places on the new chart - We Are Young falls to two.
The Wanted's Glad You Came, One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful and Boyfriend by Justin Bieber all stay put from last week and round out the new top five.
