Rockers Green Day ended 2012 on a high note by announcing plans for 2013 dates.

The news means frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is in good health after ending the year in rehab for substance abuse issues.

The trio was forced to shut down tour plans and appearances in October (12) when Armstrong checked into a clinic after losing his cool at a Green Day festival gig in Las Vegas, hurling expletives at organisers who attempted to cut the band's appearance short.

The group has cancelled a string of shows in January and February (13) but all the scrapped concerts have been rescheduled. The band will kick off a tour on 28 March (13) in Chicago, Illinois.

A statement from the group, released on New Year's Eve (31Dec12), reads: "We want to thank everyone for hanging in with us for the last few months. We are very excited to hit the road and see all of you again."

Armstrong adds, "Dear friends... I just want to thank you all for the love and support you've shown for the past few months. Believe me, it hasn't gone unnoticed and I'm eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I'm getting better every day. So now, without further ado, the show must go on.

"We can't wait to get on the road... Our passion has only grown stronger."
