Green Day's New Orleans Song

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed the inspiration behind the band's collaboration with U2, it's a tribute to New Orleans and an attack on US President George W Bush's handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster. THE SAINTS ARE COMING is a reference to American football team the New Orleans Saints, who recently returned to their stadium, the Louisiana Superdome, which was home to thousands of people made homeless by the disaster. Armstrong says of the song, recorded to raise money for a charity replacing instruments lost by musicians during the hurricane, "It's a huge event for New Orleans to get their team back after losing everything. The fact that the team was coming back was a major thing for them. It just became a monumental event, a little something to celebrate." He adds of Bush, "So many politicians, they don't have a clue what's its like to be working class or lower class or live in any sort of poverty stricken area, they are completely disconnected with that sort of lifestyle. And their reaction to it all made that clear just how disconnected."

All proceeds from the release will go directly to Music Rising, the charity set up by The Edge, producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar....
