Groff Quizzed Actors For Tips
Glee actor Jonathan Groff has former Broadway stars to thank for his career - he spent his teenage years waiting outside theatres for acting tips.
Groff was so obsessed with making it on stage or screen, he frequently travelled to New York's famed theatre district to watch a show - and would then loiter at the stage door afterwards.
He would approach his favourite actors and ask for an autograph before quizzing them for advice on how to succeed in the industry.
Groff tells British TV show This Morning, "When I was in high school I would come up to New York all the time and would always go to the stage door after the play and meet the actors and get autographs. It was a very, very important part of the thing for me.
"I would come with a list of questions for actors about what it's like to be an actor, how do you keep it fresh every day? I asked all sorts of questions and I would write about it in my journal.
"I loved talking to people at the stage door afterwards. I was a teenager wanting to know what it was like to be a working actor, and so I learned a lot from them."
