Hannah Montana 3d Breaks Recordby Contributor | | 04 February 2008
A 3D film based on Hannah Montana's recent US tour has broken box office records in North America.
Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Words Concert Tour made $29 million (£14.7 million) over the last three days, becoming the highest-grossing film during a Super Bowl weekend in the process.
The film, which features 15-year-old Miley in her real-life backstage guise and alter-ego Hannah Montana, made its record haul despite opening at only 683 cinemas, Screen International said.
In 2006, When a Stranger Calls made $21.6 million (£10.9 million) during Super Bowl weekend, which was until today the highest-ever box office return during the highlight of the American football season.
The Eye, a horror remake of the Japanese original starring Jessica Alba, earned less than half of the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana Movie, despite being shown at four times as many screens.
Elsewhere in the North American box office, last weekend's one-two Meet the Spartans and Rambo dropped to fifth and sixth, with romance 27 Dresses and Oscar-hope Juno gatecrashing the top four.
