An emotional handwritten note by author MARK TWAIN paying tribute to his late daughter has sold at auction for a whopping $242,500 (£164,000).
The 64-page manuscript, titled A Family Sketch, was penned by the literary legend following Olive's death from spinal meningitis in 1896, at the age of 24.
Describing her personality, Twain wrote, "She was a magazine of feelings, (of) all shades of force...
"In all things she was intense: in her this characteristic was not a mere glow, dispensing warmth, but a consuming fire."
The tribute was part of a collection of manuscripts by The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn writer which went under the hammer at Sotherby's in New York on Friday (18Jun10).
