The Eagles star Don Henley has concluded a long running lawsuit with a U.S. politician he accused of using his songs without permission - the singer has been handed a financial settlement and an apology.
The rocker filed suit against Republican senatorial candidate Chuck DeVore claiming he adapted his tracks All She Wants to Do is Dance and The Boys of Summer for a pair of YouTube.com campaign videos last year (09).
A state judge ruled in Henley's favour in June (10) and the musician has now thrashed out a settlement with DeVore.
Financial details of the case were not revealed but the politician has now apologised to the star.
DeVore says in a statement, "Political candidates, regardless of affiliation, should seek appropriate licence authority before they use copyrighted works. Further, we regret all inaccurate, derogatory or disparaging remarks made about Mr Henley during the course of this dispute."
Henley adds, "My colleagues and I brought this lawsuit to protect our music from being taken and used, without permission, to promote someone else's agenda. It was not a question of political ideology."
Earlier this year (10) Henley's lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to Illinois Republican Joe Walsh after learning the congressional candidate had been using his song Walk Away at campaign rallies without permission.
