Hilary Duff is writing books for teenagers.

The singer-and-actress has signed a deal with publishers Simon and Schuster, with her first novel, 'Elixir', set for release on October 12.

The 416-page story will follow a globe-trotting photographer named Clea Raymond, E! online reports.

Her next book will be a non-fiction piece focused towards children dealing with divorcing parents and is slated for release in 2012.

Hilary - who recently got engaged to her long-term boyfriend Mike Comrie - has experiences with divorce herself as her parents separated three years ago.

The 22-year-old star previously spoke about the subject in her songs 'Gypsy Woman' and 'Stranger'.

It is unknown how many other books Hilary plans to write under the terms of her deal.

Although Hilary is writing a book, she may struggle with her research as she recently admitted she needs her boyfriend's help when using the internet.

She said: "I'm really slow. You should see me on the internet. I'm really bad on the internet. If I have to find something or look something up, Mike has to be, 'I'll show you!' "
