Lauryn Hill was hailed "the true queen of hip-hop" as she staged her U.S. concert comeback at the Rock The Bells festival in California at the weekend (22Aug10).
The reclusive former Fugees star took the stage at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, California and struggled with some of the high notes she hit during her 1990s heyday - but she was a big hit.
Joining Snoop Dogg, Wu-Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One and Slick Rick on the bill, Hill, dressed in sheer black and wearing a red beret, took a moment to dedicate the song Zion to the eldest of her five children, stating, "My son Zion is now 13 years old... Can you believe that much time has passed?"
Among the hits, Hill performed Fugees favourites Fu-Gee-La and Ready or Not and a seven-minute rendition of When It Hurts So Bad.
