In a new addition to the extras packages that DVD distributors employ to attract buyers, Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that anyone buying the DVD or Blu-ray Disc release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey between the time it goes on sale on Tuesday, March 19 and Sunday, March 24 will also be able to view a preview of the second episode of the trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, as part of a live event hosted by producer/director Peter Jackson at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the 24th. Smaug is due to be released theatrically on Dec. 13. To view the preview, purchasers of the Blu-ray package will need to enter the UltraViolet access code that comes with the discs. Warner Bros. also announced that a digital download of Journey will be available beginning March 12. No word on whether those downloading the movie will also be able to access the preview.
