Hugh Jackman has spoken of his sadness after an Australian cancer victim he befriended online lost his fight for life this week (begs02Jan12).
The X-Men star previously appeared in a video message for Kristian Anderson to thank the patient's wife Rachel for her unwavering support following his liver and bowel cancer diagnosis.
In the emotional montage, which became an online hit in 2010, Jackman looks into the camera and says, "He loves you Rachel... he loves you."
Jackman's participation in the video caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey, who handed the family a cheque for $247,232 (£154,520) so they could "take the year off and get well".
Anderson died on Monday (02Jan12), and Jackman has paid a moving tribute to his friend.
He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "While I never met Kristian, like everyone else I feel like I know him. He was an inspiration, and a reminder to treasure what really matters in life."
