Hugh Jackman - Hugh Jackman Reveals 'Real Steel' Fitness Regime
Hugh Jackman has revealed the intense fitness regime he underwent to prepare for new movie 'Real Steel'. The Australian actor plays Charlie Kenton, a former fighter who begins to manage a team of violent robot boxers.
Jackman, perhaps best known for his turn as Wolverine in the X-Men movies, worked alongside former Boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard who was hired as boxing advisor. Speaking to The Atlantic magazine about his preparations, the actor explained, "I had to at least look convincing as a former boxer, so I went to Aerospace (the machine-free fitness centre in New York City) to get into trim. At the very least, I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of Sugar Ray". Set in the year 2020, the movie follows Jackman's character as he reluctantly teams up with his son to build a championship-contending fighting robot after losing the chance to become a champion himself. Hugh claims his father was arguably more excited than he was after discovering Sugar Ray had become involved in the project, saying, "I think 'jazzed' would be the word. He thinks that Ray might have been, pound-for-pound, the best fighter he ever saw".
Jackman has been cast as the lead in Tom Hooper's big screen adaptation of Les Miserables. The movie, set in 19th century France, also stars Anne Hathaway and EMMA WATSON.
