Lesbian love story Blue Is The Warmest Color has been banned from an Idaho cinema because bosses could lose their liquor licence if they screen the Cannes Film Festival favourite.

Boise arthouse cinema Flicks Theatre boss Carole Skinner has been forced to pass on the controversial Abdellatif Kechiche Palme d'Or-winner - and it has nothing to do with upsetting film fans.

She tells The Hollywood Reporter that the venue's liquor licence is tied to Idaho Code 23-614, which prohibits films featuring "acts or simulated acts of sexual intercourse, masturbation, sodomy, bestiality, oral copulation, flagellation or any sexual acts which are prohibited by law" and "any person being touched, caressed or fondled on the breast, buttocks, anus or genitals".

The ban means Idaho film fans could miss out on the movie altogether - because Flicks is the state's only cinema that screens indie and foreign films.
