Naomi Harris, the 23rd Bond girl, revealed in an interview with The Sun that Idris Elba has been in talks with the franchise's producer Barbara Broccoli to take over the role in the future. If Elba were to be the next Bond he would be the first black man to play the role since its conception, 50 years ago.

Speaking to the sun Harris said "I didn't realise that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris and he said that he met (Bond producer) Barbara Broccoli and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he's a great guy." They have been working together on a Nelson Mandela biopic. Last year, however, amid speculation regarding him taking over the role, Elba spoke against the prospect: "It's a rumour. I just don't want to be the black James Bond. Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond, and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond, so if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond." Michael Fassbender has also been tipped for the role, as have Christian Bale, Guy Pearce and Sam Worthington (Avatar), according to Esquire.

Although Elba would be the first black person to play James Bond, he wouldn't be the first Black Bond, as that claim can be taken by a Christian rapper from Worcestershire, UK, who is notorious in Worcester for his performances along the highstreet and his local hit song 'Get Lost in Music'.
