A private investigator hunting for Olivia Newton-John's missing ex-boyfriend, Patrick McDermott, is convinced he faked his own death - and is still alive. MCDermott, who dated the Grease star for nine years, disappeared during a fishing trip off the California coast in 2005.
Investigators failed to unearth any trace of him and, in November (08), the United States Coastguard ruled he had most likely drowned.
But there have been repeated sightings of MCDermott in Mexico and South America - and a private investigator hired by U.S. TV show Dateline NBC is now convinced he faked his death to escape mounting debts, and so his son could collect a hefty life insurance pay-out.
Philip Klein, who is leading the case, tells Australia's Courier-Mail newspaper, "He's alive - there's no doubt in my mind."
Newton-John was left heartbroken by MCDermott's disappearance, but has since found love with millionaire John Easterling, who she married last summer (08).
