Celebrated Iranian poet Simin Behbahani has died, aged 87.

The two-time Nobel Prize nominee passed away at a hospital in Tehran, Iran on Thursday (14Aug14) after suffering heart failure.

Behbahani's poems were often turned into love songs by Iranian singers, and she also used her writing to highlight women's rights issues. Her activism earned her the nickname the 'Lioness of Iran' and she even won the praise of U.S. President Barack Obama who insisted her work has "moved the world".
