J Dilla - J Dilla Remembered In London
Late hip-hop producer J Dilla was honoured over the weekend (02-03Feb13) with the release of a documentary exploring the influence the former Slum Village star had on European underground culture.
J Dilla, real name James Dewitt Yancey, died from complications related to autoimmune disease lupus in February, 2006 and a series of tributes took place in London to celebrate his life and work.
The documentary, entitled The View From the Other Side: J Dilla A European Remembrance, premiered at the Hackney Picture House on Saturday (02Feb13).
Directed by independent filmmaker Shernay LaTouche, the film features interviews with European artists and Djs including Shortee Blitz and Mr. Thing and Parisian rapper Onra.
In addition, the seventh annual Doctor's Orders Dilla, a night held in tribute to J Dilla's music, was held at the Scala in King's Cross on Sunday (03Feb13).
The evening was hosted by J Dilla's close friend and rapper, Phat Kat, with all proceeds donated to the J Dilla Foundation and Lupus Uk, according to Allhiphop.com.
