The mother of late hip-hop producer J Dilla has put a portion of the tragic star's record collection up for sale to raise funds for his youth charity.

The former Slum Village pioneer, real name James Dewitt Yancey, died from complications related to auto-immune disease lupus in February, 2006, aged 32 and his family set up the J Dilla Foundation in his memory.

Dilla's massive collection of "records, personal test presses and audio master tapes" was left in storage in the care of his mother, Maureen Yancey, in 2004 but due to the rapper's deteriorating health, payments were not made to keep the facility.

The storage unit was not recovered until last spring (12), when Yancey was reunited with the collection - and she has decided to put it to good use.

Yancey is selling off a portion of the collection on auction site eBay.com and every purchase comes with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. All proceeds will benefit the J Dilla Foundation.
