Rocker Jack Russell has been ordered to rename his upcoming benefit show to distance himself from a fund set up in memory of those who died in the infamous Great White concert fire.

The singer had planned to perform a gig in California on 7 February (13) and hand the proceeds to the Station Fire Memorial Foundation, which was set up after 100 people lost their lives in a blaze at the band's show in Rhode Island in 2003.

However, bosses behind the memorial fund rejected Russell's offer of a donation and he decided to give the proceeds to another charity, but they have now stepped up their fight and ordered him to change the name of the benefit show to remove any reference to the fire or the foundation.

A statement from the Station Fire Memorial Foundation reads, "Upon hearing about this event, contact was made with Mr. Russell's management company. The Station Fire Memorial Foundation felt that this event was not something we wished to be associated with. This is due to the resentment and animosity still felt by many of the families and survivors that our very organization represents.

"We feel that the upset caused by his involvement would outweigh the amount of funds raised at this event. It is our intent as an elected board to put the needs and best interests of those we represent before any monetary gain."

In 2008, the band agreed to pay $1 million (£625,000) to survivors and families of the victims of the blaze, which was started by stage pyrotechnics and also claimed the life of the group's guitarist, Ty Longley.

The incident became was fourth deadliest fire in U.S. history.
