Michael Jackson - Jackson Family Drops Restitution Bid

The family of late singer Michael Jackson have dropped their restitution bid against Dr. Conrad Murray.

Relatives of the 'Thriller' hitmaker - including his parents Joe and Katherine and children Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and nine-year-old Prince Michael II, who is known as Blanket - had been seeking $100 million damages from the medic but have now decided not to pursue the claim because the doctor is close to being broke and his medical licence has been revoked.

As a result, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office have cancelled a hearing which was set for Monday (23..01.12),

District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Jane Robison told E! News: "We informed Judge Pastor that the Jackson family is not seeking restitution and asked that the matter be taken off the calendar."

The Jacksons initially argued that Murray - who was convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of the star in November - should make up for the projected earnings from Michael's 'This Is It' 50-date London residency, scheduled to start just weeks after his death from acute Propofol intoxication in June 2009.

However, during the medic's sentencing, even prosecutors conceded it would be impossible for Murray to repay $100 million and he filed paperwork last month saying he is almost bankrupt and can't pay $1.8 million in funeral expenses.

Murray is currently serving a four-year jail term over Michael's death, but is expected to be released in just over two years due to overcrowding in the California state prison system.

I wish the Jackson family wouldn't have withdrew the claim. If Conrad Murray was ordered to pay and couldn't he would have had to serve more time, one way to keep this murderer in jail and maybe then there would have been room to send him to prison. This is almost like letting him off scot-free.

I truly believe that Ms. Katherine figures that at her age it will be just to much for her to continue to go after this murderer. I think it is so hard for her. She has so much on her plate at her age with looking after MJ's estate and his children. How hard it had ti be for her to have to sit day after day in that courtroom knowing that the most this man could get is 4 yrs. minus good behavior and enough space for taking her child's life. Conrad Murray without a doubt is broke and the only thing that could have happened in this instance was Ms. Katherine, the kids and MJ's family would be back on TV and back in court trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip. I'm sure unlike the wishes of the folks on this blog and MJ's fans everywhere (including me), Michael would not want to see his Mom having to go through another minute of grief, especially if it has anything to do with the likes of Murray the Murderer. People you have to understand, Ms. Katherine is over 80 now and she is living with the loss of her baby, at some point she has to put her life back on track and personally, I would like to see her enjoy the rest of her life with Michael's kids making her proud. I want to see Ms. Katherine smile again like MJ used to do. He loved her soooo much and wanted her to always be happy and I think if she can get Murray out of her thoughts and her life now she will accomplish just that and I know then MJ will totally RIP with a smile!

i would like to know why did the Jacksons drop the restitution claim for Michaels children, its Murray fault he's in jail it was him that couldn't say no to the money he would have made its all Murray doing no one else.Murray should pay and do the time for everything he did wrong as a doctor a real doctor would have done the right thing for Michael and MJ would still be here with his family and his fans we miss you MJ.

Could the Jacksons change their minds and go for the restitution for Michaels children, its Murrays fault all of this has happen to him, for not being a good doctor he did everything in a reckless way for Michael Murray didn't care then for MJ or MJ;S children so why is it that the Jacksons want to gave up the restitution they should get something for their loss out of Murray.

whether it is payable or not, ith fine has been ordered. the suit the jacksons decided not to folloup on was a CIVIL case. the criminal case is am entity separate and apart from the sentencing in the criminal trial. it was imposed most likely because, the judge,as he indicated in the sentencing, wished he could lawfully impose a longer rncarceration. instead,he got the max allowable by statute along with a hefty fine to balance out the punishment

the jacksons dropped the CIVIL CASE.. the criminal decision granted the necessary funds. they didnt need to pursue a civil case when the other criminal case, de facto imposed the fine as part of the sentence. i have not heard the judge recant ANY of the sentence to date. the fine is part of his punisment. it has already been handed down. i dont see an appeal being granted. there were no procedural errors. it is my understanding that said sentence lies intact, no appeal has been granted. nor should it be.
