Jada Pinkett Smith gave up being a rock star for her family.

The actress and Wicked Wisdom singer – who is married to Will Smith – said she turned down the chance for her band to tour with Guns N' Roses so she could concentrate on raising their children, Jaden, 12 and Willow, 10.

She told Redbook Magazine: "I had to make choices. Believe me, I would still be on the road with my band Wicked Wisdom, and making as many movies as I can a year, and doing all sort of things if I didn't have the responsibility of a family.

"But I have children with their own talents and dreams, and I know I have to be standing next to them for that Journey."

Jaden is a budding film star, having appeared alongside his father in 'The Pursuit of Happyness' and starring in 'The Karate Kid', while Willow has started a pop career, scoring a huge hit with her single 'Whip My Hair'.

Jada, 39, added while her children don't have the most normal upbringing in Hollywood with huge stars as parents, she is just glad they don't have to be "in a house with drugs in a war zone."

She said: "It still makes me nervous that they're part of something that isn't totally real. But it's up to Will and me to teach them what's real and what's not."
