Jada Pinkett Smith has clarified comments she made suggesting she has an open marriage with Will Smith, insisting her remarks were misconstrued.
The stars, who have been married for 15 years and share two children, have faced speculation about the state of their union in recent weeks, and The Matrix Reloaded star addressed the gossip in an interview with The Huffington Post earlier this month (Apr13), saying, "I've always told Will, 'You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be Ok.' At the end of the day, Will is his own man."
However, her remarks fuelled speculation the actress lets her husband enjoy extramarital relations with others, so Pinkett Smith has taken to her Facebook.com page to set the record straight.
In a message posted on Sunday (14Apr13), she writes, "Open marriage? Let me first say this, there are far more important things to talk about in regards to what is happening in the world than whether I have an open marriage or not. I am addressing this issue because a very important subject has been born from discussions about my statement that may be worthy of addressing.
"The statement I made in regard to, 'Will can do whatever he wants,' has illuminated the need to discuss the relationship between trust and love and how they co-exist... Should we be married to individuals who can not be responsible for themselves and their families within their freedom? Should we be in relationships with individuals who we can not entrust to their own values, integrity, and Love... for us???
"Here is how I will change my statement... Will and I Both can do Whatever we want, because we Trust each other to do so. This does Not mean we have an open relationship... this means we have a Grown one."
