Janet Devlin Missing Grandfather's Funeral For X Factor
Janet Devlin, the 16-year-old Northern Irish singer and clear favourite to win The X Factor, will perform on Saturday's show (15th October 2011) despite the death of her grandfather. Janet has been urged by family to perform at the weekend, insisting her Grandfather Malcolm would have wanted it, reports BBC News.
X Factor bosses were happy for Janet to attend the funeral, without having to pull out of the competition, but the 16-year-old has made her final decision. Incidentally, the theme for Saturday's live performances is 'Love & Heartache'. Malcolm passed away suddenly on Wednesday (12th October 2011), with Janet's mother Patricia telling the Irish Daily Mirror it was a "massive shock" to the family. She added that her father-in-law would have wanted Janet to sing because he was incredibly proud of her making it to the live finals. Last week, Devlin sang a stirring rendition of Coldplay's 'Fix You' and was roundly praised by judges, with Louis Walsh claiming she had "the voice of an angel". Despite her difficult few days, one of the singer's last Twitter messages was upbeat, saying, "Sound check today. Everything went great :)".
Four X Factor hopefuls were eliminated after last week's first live performances. The judges were forced to send home one of their four acts, with Middlesbrough-born singer Amelia Lily among those to get the boot.
