Latin jazz star EDDIE PALMIERI scrapped a planned concert in New York on Friday night (26Mar10) after his wife was shot by a jealous neighbour.
The Grammy winner's wife Iraida was targeted by 81-year-old Maria Cartagena in their apartment building in Queens on Tuesday (23Mar10) after the angry neighbour became annoyed by the constant noise coming from the Palmieri home on the floor above.
Cartegena, who also believed Iraida had been attempting to woo her husband Rafael, was arrested by police and charged with attempted murder and assault. Her bail was set at $25,000 (£16,670).
Iraida Palmieri only suffered a minor head injury after being grazed by the bullet and is resting at her daughter Gabriella's home in Manhattan.
The pianist, 73, was due to play at Tarrytown Music Hall in Westchester in upstate New York, but pulled the gig because he was "traumatised by the experience".
